Ways were team green here at Erin Cox Jewellery

From growing her own vegetables and spinning her own wool to shopping locally and organically, Erin has made a commitment to try and live in a sustainable and ecologically conscious way.

Erin’s personal ethos is to tread lightly on this beautiful planet. This blog post explores how Erin extends this personal belief into her jewellery studio and the various ways we’re team green at Erin Cox Jewellery.

FAIRTRADE GOLD

Fewer than 50 makers in the UK are registered to work with Fairtrade Gold — and we’re incredibly proud that Erin is one of them.

Our Fairtrade Gold is currently sourced from artisanal mines in Peru (home of our friend Paddington Bear!) and comes with full traceability from mine to market. Fairtrade standards prioritise safer working conditions and reduced environmental harm, including strict controls on chemicals like mercury and requirements for rehabilitating mining land. Choosing Fairtrade Gold supports small-scale miners while helping to protect the planet.

RECYCLED PRECIOUS METALS (AS STANDARD)

We use recycled gold & platinum as a standard. This means we either order in recycled bullion from trusted UK suppliers or reuse customers’ own during remodelling projects. Using recycled precious metals reduces the need for new mining and keeps precious materials in circulation.

LAB GROWN DIAMONDS

Erin has recently embraced lab-grown diamonds, and our first designs using them are now live on our website. Each stone is IGI-certified for authenticity and quality — and they’re breathtaking.

We still appreciate the heritage and romance of natural diamonds, but offering lab-grown alternatives gives our clients more choice.

FSC CERTIFIED PACKAGING

Our jewellery boxes are made using FSC-certified, recyclable materials that support responsible forest management. We searched high and low for packaging that balanced luxury with eco-consciousness, and we’re delighted with the result.

JEWELLERY REMODELLING

With over 20 years of experience, Erin has become a go-to jeweller for remodelling, and her molten style lends itself beautifully to giving old pieces new life.

By reusing gold and stones, you reduce waste, breathe new life into precious heirlooms, and often create something even more meaningful than buying new.

MINIMAL WASTE

We operate with an almost zero-waste mindset in the studio. Every offcut, filing and scrap of gold is collected — we even keep our hoover bags! Any metal deemed unusable is sent to be refined in Birmingham and re-enters the supply chain as recycled precious metal.

ALTERNATIVE DIAMONDS

We pride ourselves on offering jewellery that’s different and so it’s no surprise that we are drawn to diamonds with interesting origins and stories.

Here are four unique designs currently available (at the time of posting) featuring diamonds with less traditional backgrounds…

A. 18ct yellow gold and 10pt diamond solitaire - £986

This design features a vintage diamond full of character with an old school cut. The form of this charming rose cut diamond is reminiscent of the iconic Eden project domes — it features a flat base & domed top covered in triangular facets.

B. Diamond duo necklace in 18ct white & yellow gold - £5359

This coveted design showcases a whopping 0.71ct brilliant diamond from Canada. Due to more regulated environmental and ethical mining standards in Canada than in other parts of the world, Canadian diamonds can be the perfect choice for those who want make a more conscious choice.

C. Platinum 2.01ct diamond ‘Tamar’ ring - £3900

This features the largest lab-grown diamond Erin has ever worked with! See our blog post ‘Embracing change: Why I’ve started working with lab-grown diamonds’ to learn more about Erin’s new chapter with lab-grown diamonds.

D. Platinum 1.28ct diamond bubble solitaire with blue and green diamond shoulders - £14999

Looks like a modern brilliant-cut diamond, right? Well, this stone has more depth — and not just literally. Once an old-cut diamond, it spent many years in its original ‘old cut’ form before being carefully re-cut and refined into the brilliant beauty you see today. If only we knew the stories it could tell…
